Pine Needles Invitational: Williams, Lacroix hang on for win
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (March 5, 2012) -- Brett Williams and Brandon Lacroix teamed up to win the 2012 Pine Needles Invitational this past weekend at the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club.

Williams and Lacroix (65-65-68--198) withstood a Sunday surge from two teams to win by two shots.

"We had three solid days of putting," said Brett Williams. "Brandon got off to a quick start in round one by birding 4 of the first 6. Including a 2 on the 235 yd par 3 13th. I was able to contribute 3 birdies on the back nine."

Runners up Adam Horton and Garland Green (69-66-65--200) fired a final-round 65, nearly catching the winners. Gary Carpenter, Jr. and Josh Upton (70-66-64--200) shot 64 to close the gap. In the end, however, it was the pair of 65s the winners shot in the first two rounds that separated them from the pack.

Scott Campbell and Barry Dyche (65-66-70--201) and Thomas Parker and Will Huntley (68-68-65--201) were three shots off the pace, finishing tied for fourth.

"In the final round, we birdied 4 of the first 5 holes in modified alternate shot," said Lacroix. "We were then fortunate that Brett made a 7 footer on #9 the final day for bogey."

The Pine Needles invitational is an annual 54-hold mixed format stroke play tournament held on the Donald Ross 1927 design.
