Cal goes wire-to-wire to defend at Burns Intercollegiate

The Cal Bears go 17-under-par to defend the John Burns Invitational title by seven strokes over UNLV
KAHUKU, Hawaii (Feb. 17, 2012) -- Taking a four stroke lead into today's final round, the California Bears extended their lead to win by seven strokes. The Bears finished up at 17-under-par 847 (270-286-291) on the Arnold Palmer Course at Turtle Bay.
Starting its day in fifth place, UNLV finished strong to move up into a tie for second at 854 (278-291-285) with Duke, (282-286-286).
One stroke back was New Mexico, which finished alone in fourth at 855 (274-292-289.) SMU had a rough final round after holding second place after round two and moved down to finish in 6th place at 860 (282-278-300.)
Low individual honors went to Duke's Julian Suri who finished up at 11-under par 205 with rounds of 68-70-70. Cal's Max Homa was second, four behind Suri at 209 (66-71-72.)
This is the first win for the Bears in the spring season. In the fall they won the Wolverine Collegiate and tied for 1st at the Alister Mackenzie.
