Nebraska Match Play: Stanek, Bernt in final match
Gothenburg, Neb. (June 24, 2011) -- Kevin Stanek of Bellevue and Wesley Bernt of Kearney advanced to the 44th state match play final winning two matches Friday at Wild Horse Golf Club.

Stanek defeated Jeff Holsten of Gothenburg 7 and 6 in a morning quarterfinal and Jayson Brueggemann of Lincoln 2 up in the semifinals. Bernt knocked off Collin Craft of Omaha 2 and 1 and Tyler Erwin of Norfolk in 21 holes.

Both golfers are vying for their first state championship. Stanek will be a senior on the Creighton University men's golf team this fall. Bernt is the assistant golf coach at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

The 36-hole championship match begins at 7 a.m. Saturday with the second session scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Complete match play results and the tournament bracket are available by linking to scoring.

ABOUT THE Nebraska Match Play

Must be a resident or student of the state of Nebraska. Open to NGA members only. Limited to low 120 indexes. Format will be 36-holes of stroke play to determine a round of 32 match play.
