BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA (November 15, 2009)--The South African team of J.G. Claassen and Ryan Dreyer won the 14th annual Juan Carlos Tailhade Cup at Los Lagartos Country Club. With a total of 567 strokes, Claasen and Dreyer finished three shotws ahead of Armando Zarlenga and Tomas Cocha of Argentina. Emiliano Grillo was the best player in the Individual competition with 277 strokes.

The Argentines and South Africans, who at the end of the day yesterday were tied in first position, began play today with the firm intention to take back the title. Argentina had won twice (1996-2004), while the African team did it in 1997.

After a day with ideal weather, which was far from what it was last Friday, it was Claassen and Dreyer who capitalized taking 142 strokes, three less than the Argentine team. Third place went to Peru at 573 strokes, with Portugal fourth at 575.

J.G. Claassen closed by shooting 67, which placed him third in the individual competition. Next week, both he and Dreyer will stay in Argentina to play in the Amateur Championship at Buenos Aires Golf Club.

For his part, Tomas Cocha finished his final round with a 71 and scored a total of 285. His partner, Armando Zarlenga, finished with a 74.

In the Individual competition, Argentina's Emiliano Grillo took the top position with 277 strokes. Grillo, who won the Junior World Championships in San Diego and who has played much of the season in the U.S., shot a fina-round 69 which included a birdie at the 3rd hole and an eagle at the 15th from the bunker. "Competing in the United States helped me psychologically, and I feel that I improved technically", said Grillo, who will return to the U.S. to play in the Polo Junior Golf Championship.

Los Lagartos Country Club established Juan Carlos Tailhade Cup 36 years ago as an Individual competition, and the Argentina Golf Association created the International Team competition years later. England and Australia have four victories in the championship, followed by Argentina, the Netherlands, and now South Africa with two.
