VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (July 18, 2009) -Amelia Lewis rallied to win the North & South Women’s Amateur Saturday, defeating Cydney Clanton, 3 and 2, at Pinehurst No. 2.

Down 3 through 22 holes of the 36-hole final, Lewis, No. 63 in the Golfweek/Titleist Junior Rankings, made eagle on the par-5 fifth, the 23rd hole of the match, to cut into the lead, then won the 24th hole with par and the 26th with biride to square the match. She took the lead with a birdie on the 27th hole – Pinehurst’s par-3 ninth – then moved 2 up with a birdie on the next hole.

Lewis, who trailed 2 down after 18 holes, closed the match with a par on the par-4 16th.

The Jacksonville, Fla., native was runner-up earlier this year at the Harder Hall Amateur. She will attend Florida in the fall.

Clanton, a soon-to-be junior at Auburn, advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links last month.
