SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2009) -- First and second round matches were played Saturday and Sunday at Harding Park, and a complete bracket is available by clicking on the "view results" link at the bottom of this page.

FIRST ROUND HIGHLIGHTS - Saturday 2/21
Medalist Randy Haag got a chance for revenge as he played Reid Scarff, who had won a sudden-death playoff over Haag at the amateurgolf.com Christmas Classic in December. This time, it was Haag, who won 4 & 3.

Defending Champ Martin Trainer had his hands full with Darryl Donovan of Morgan Hill, winning 1-up.

amateurgolf.com members who won first round matches include Haag, Trainer, Andrew Biggadike, Andrew Nottenkamper, Andrey Mindirgasov, Matt Miller, Adam Ichikawa, Jamie Core, Andrew Damron, Bruce Hanavan, Daniel Covrig, Matt Marshall, Jonny Baxter, Wayne Ahlstrom, Buck Branson, Nick Sako, and Scott Hardy.

SECOND ROUND HIGHLIGHTS - Sunday 2/22
Haag advanced easily on Sunday over Spencer Biersdorff, 5 & 4. Biersdorff was a winner by default in the first round, and Haag left him little time to warm up. Defending Champ Trainer again went to the 18th hole, this time against Daniel Maier.

St. Marys College golf coach Scott Hardy defeated Nick Sako, a Senior at Menlo Atherton H.S. who recently signed a letter of intent to play for Hardy at St. Marys in 2009. Both players are excellent in match play - Sako was a quarterfinalist in this event in 2008 and Hardy has made the semi-finals of the USGA Mid Amateur twice in the past 4 years.
