PALM CITY, Fla. - David Roschman made three straight birdies to start the back nine Sunday at The Fox Club, then held on to win the Palm Beach International for the second time in three years. Despite double bogies at the par-5 eighth and 18th holes when he earned no points in the Stableford event, Roschman, 46, a Jupiter real estate agent, totaled 78 points in two days, including 38 the final round. "It's my first tournament of the year and it's always good to start with a victory," Roschman said. "It should give me some confidence for the rest of the season. Overall, it was pretty ugly today but I made a mile of putts." Roschman shot 72-75-147 on his own ball with four birdies and as many bogies Saturday. On Sunday, he made five birdies and four bogies, plus pulling his drive out of bounds at No. 8 and hitting two in the water at the 18th. It was Roschman's eighth Palm Beach County Golf Association victory. In 2003, he won the International with 90 points and added the Stroke Play, Pepsi and Tournament of Champions titles enroute to earning PBCGA Player of the Year honors. Eoghan O'Connell of Palm Beach Gardens, the managing partner at The Fox Club, and Mike Nealy, who recently obtained his real estate license after his family sold a sports bar in Boca Raton, tied for second with 77 points apiece. O'Connell birdied the first three holes enroute to 33-35-68 and 46 points. Nealy scored 40 points on four birdies and as many bogies for 37-35-72. Nealy had a chance to win with a birdie at the 18th, but was short on his first putt. The Stableford tournament drew 96 entries. Points were awarded on the basis of five for eagle, four for birdie, two for par, one for bogey and no points for double bogey or higher. In the handicap division, a point quota event, the winner was John Whitehead of West Palm Beach, who was competing in his first PBCGA tournament. Whitehead played to his 12 handicap for the route. He was plus-2 the first day, minus 2 in the finale. Next on the PBCGA tournament schedule: April 29-May 1, Arrigo Dodge Four-Ball, Bear Lakes CC-Links, and May 9-10, Senior Better-Ball, BallenIsles CC-East.
