Lakeway Invitational: Final Results

AUSTIN, TX (March 12, 2006)--It took 2 playoff holes to decide the champion, but in the 3rd annual Lakeway Invitational, the team from The Hills Country Club of Charles Young and Eddie Pozemny beat Westlake High School golf coach Callen Nokes and Ed Martinez of Lakeway to win the 2006 Lakeway Invitational with a -4 total of 212. The 54-hole tournament was contested over Yaupon GC, The Hills Signature Course, and Flintrock Falls, in wind swept conditions. Gene Black and Jerry Jolley jumped out to the first-round lead at Yaupon with a 6-under 66, but Young and Podzemny fired a 5-under 67 on day 2 at The Hills. As Black/Jolley struggled to a 4th-place finish on day 3, Martinez and Nokes rallied with a 69 to catch Young and Podzemny at the end of regulation, only to make bogey on the second playoff hole as Young and Podzemny parred to win the championship. There were 128 players comprising the strongest field yet for the young tournament.
