Finishing his round with pars on 17 and 18 was just what Atkinson needed to claim a two shot victory with a final round of 75 for a 54-hole total of 215, 1-under par

TROPHY CLUB, Texas (March 24, 2013) -- Round three of the North Mid-Amateur presented by UST Mamiya started Sunday under freezing temperatures and 25 mile-per-hour winds. Zach Atkinson, of Hurst, held a two shot lead after round two and started the third round with his sights set on the North Mid-Amateur Medal. Atkinson started out the front nine with pars on his first two holes and a birdie on the third. He then gave a few shots back making a double bogey and a bogey to turn in 2-over, 38. The bogeys continued for Atkinson on 3 of his first five holes on the back nine before turning it around and making back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16. Finishing his round with pars on 17 and 18 was just what Atkinson needed to claim a two shot victory with a final round of 75 for a 54-hole total of 215, 1-under par. Finishing second behind Atkinson was Brandon Scott, of Justin, TX. Brandon started the day two shots back of the lead and needed a good round to make a move past Atkinson. Unfortunately Scott’s three birdies weren’t enough with four bogeys and a double on Sunday. Scott matched Atkinson’s final round of 75 to fall two shots short. Finishing in third was Colby Harwell, of Robinson, TX. Harwell was the definition of consistency this week shooting three rounds of 73 for a total of 3-over par 219. Finishing in fifth place overall and claiming the Super Mid-Amateur title was David Reynolds, a member of Trophy Club CC. Considering the conditions, Reynolds shot a solid final round of 77 but was left wondering what could have been finishing his round with a double-bogey and two bogeys. Reynolds finished with a total of 5-over par 221. The Super Mid-Amateur included all players over the age of 40.
