BRENTWOOD, CALIFORNIA (March 11, 2006) -- The 2nd Annual amateurgolf.com Diablo Valley Amateur got underway on Saturday at the Gary Roger Baird-designed Shadow Lakes Golf Course.

Tournament Notes:

- Bob Niger shot 5 birdies to lead the field with a 3 under 68 - the only other sub par round was Matt Couch with a 1-under-par 70.

- The course was in great shape but long rough played havoc with stray shots, and the cold was the toughest part of the day for some.

- Mark Casey scored his 3rd career hole-in-one when he aced No.4 - a 195 yard par 3, firing a 6-iron which bounced twice and rolled to the hole to provide him with his 3rd career hole-in-one.

- A small group of seniors will fight for points on Sunday. Bob Olds and Rob Thompson tied at 73 to lead the senior division. They will play in the final group tomorrow joined by local Bill Goodwin, who shot 76.

- The Net Division is led by Brentwood local Mike Casey who finished too late to get a drink from his brother's hole-in-one celebrations. Casey recently traveled to Kiawah Island with amateurgolf.com and the trip obviously paid off. Other players in the leading net group tomorrow will be Larry Fillmore (71) with Jim Thurman and Michael Gravely (74)
