California teams top Championship and Net Divisions

KIAWAH ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA (February 26, 2006) -- Forty players from 13 different states gathered in Kiawah Island South Carolina today for the first round of the amateurgolf.com Kiawah Island Two Man Championship, a 54-hole best-ball event played over three courses. Not surprisingly, players from the Southern California city of Redlands are at the top of the leaderboard (they may have a few more rounds under their belt than their northern counterparts).

Andy Kitchen and Paul Rice of Redlands edged their traveling companions Mark Gardner and Ted Lyford by a stroke to the lead the Championship Division at 2-under-par 70, while Mike Casey and Robert Paulson of the Northern California cities of Brentwood and Oakley shot a net 70 to lead the Net Division by 1 over Daniel Germain of Charlotte, NC and Dan Thome of Sparta, MI.

The second round will be played Monday at Turtle Point and the final round will be played at the famous Ocean Course on Tuesday.
