Michael Occi fired a first-round 71 at Fiddlesticks Country Club and takes a one-shot lead

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2012) -- Michael Occi fired a first-round 71 at Fiddlesticks Country Club and takes a one-shot lead after Day 1 of the 2012 Society of Seniors Championships. In the Dale Morey Division, Occi leads Dick Anderson, John O'Malley and Richard Pfeil by one shot entering the second round of play. Alan Fadel, Bill Boles, Dennis Helms and Paul Zarek are all tied for third place and sit just two shots back entering the second round. All told, there are 13 players within three shots of the leader. Jerry Greenbaum has a one-shot lead in the John Owens division while John Estes leads the Grand Masters flight after a first-round 70 --- the lowest round of the day in any division.

54 hole stroke play event that honors one of the founders of the SOS, Dale Morey, who won more than 250 events in a lifetime of golf. In 2021 the tournament switched to a single division. SOS annual meeting and banquet is held with this tournament.
