Ryan McCormack, the 2012 MET Am champ, leads while 15-year-old Cameron Young is in second

EDISON, N.J. (August 22, 2012) - The dream season continues for 20-year-old Ryan McCormick of Suburban. The 2012 Met Amateur champion posted a 5-under 66 in the second round to go along with his 5-under 67 in the first round to take the lead of the 97th Met Open at Plainfield Country Club. The St. John's University golfer, who possess a tour veteran's demeanor, has recorded 11 birdies, 3 bogeys, and one eagle in the championship so far. "I played great," he said. "Just played kinda solid all day, kinda got lost out there with how many under I was. Honestly, I didn’t even know what the putt was for on the last hole. "I’ve been playing great all year, just trying get better every week." Meanwhile the youngest player in the field, 15-year-old Cameron Young of Sleepy Hollow, did what he has been doing all season long and posted another round in the 60s, this time a 2-under 69 in the second round to give him a total of 135. Young said his tee to green games was there, but he struggled a bit with his putter. "I hit it well on both 9s, I just didn’t putt that well," Young said. "It’s good knowing I didn’t play my best and still shot a couple under." Recent Met PGA Pro Championship winner Rob Labritz of GlenArbor also kept his momentum and parlayed his first-round 66 with a second-round 1-under 70 to finish at 136. "I told you guys not to get the greens faster and you did," Labritz said jokingly. "That was the big difference. Greens were quicker than they were yesterday. But if I can play like the way I’ve been playing, I’ll be fine." Former touring pro and 2012 Connecticut Open winner Jason Caron Siwanoy also fired a 5-under 66 to join Labritz at 136. Once again, ideal weather and course conditions awaited players at Plainfield. The MGA championship staff made several course setup changes, but low scores were still had by many in the field. 2007 Met Open winner Frank Bensel of Century is also very much in the mix after posting a 1-under 70, good for a 137 total. Web.com Tour pro and 2005 Carter Cup winner Morgan Hoffmann of Arcola is six shots off the lead after a second-round 70 (139).
