Owen Joyner of the Woodlands holds a one stroke lead over a packed field heading into the final round

SEALY, Texas (Aug. 11, 2012) --Another humid morning gave way to sunny skies as the second round of the South Amateur Championship got underway. Sealy’s River Ridge Golf Club has provided a challenge for those playing in the final regional championship of the 2012 season. Owen Joyner will look to maintain his spot at the top of the leader board heading into the final round. Joyner, of The Woodlands, followed his opening round 4-under par 67 with a second round score of 1-under par 70. Joyner was able to record two birdies on each side to go along with three bogeys during his second round. Through two rounds, Joyner has been able to register nine birdies and only four bogeys on the par 71 course. Joyner will enter the final round at 5-under par 137, just one stroke ahead of a stacked field. Richmond’s Brandon Wilhide and Nicholas Cristea, of Houston, sit only one stroke off of Joyner’s lead. Both players will enter the final round tied at 4-under par 138 after each have recorded rounds of 68 and 70 in the first two days. Wilhide, a member of Houston Baptist University’s golf team, pocketed four birdies and three bogeys during his second round. Cristea picked up two birdies and a lone bogey in his second round. Katy’s Albert Minor sits alone in fourth place after two rounds at 3-under par 139. There are three players at 2-under par 140 looking to move up the leader board during the final round. Those three players are Austin’s Hudson Hansard, Jeff New, of The Woodlands, and Sugar Land’s Joey Rippel. In all, 15 players sit at even par 142 or better heading into the final round, which has the potential to go down to the last hole. Play will begin Sunday morning at 7:30am off of #1 and #10.
