Huge comeback for Pat Duncan at Trans-Miss Senior

The legendary San Diego amateur erased an 8-shot deficit to take the title at La Jolla CC

LA JOLLA, Calif. (May 24, 2012) -- Patrick Duncan, Sr. of Rancho Santa Fe, Cal., closed with a final round 1-over par 73 to come back to win the 2012 Trans-Mississippi Senior Championship at La Jolla Country Club. Starting his third round eight strokes off the lead, Duncan, Sr. finished the 54-hole championship at 6-over-par 222 (73-76-73). The landscaping contractor, made birdies on the par-5 15th and par-3 16th holes to take the lead. Kemp Richardson of Laguna Niguel, Calif. finished in second place, one stroke back at 223 (73-75-75.) La Jolla Country Club’s Kevin Hayes, who enjoyed a seven-shot lead entering the round, struggled to an 87 Thursday and finished tied for 10th at 12-over 228. Hayes, playing in his first Trans championship, had rounds of 72 and 69 to open the event. Tom Philips of Scottsdale, Ariz. tied for third at 225 (75-77-73) with Bob Kain of La Quinta, CA 225 (76-73-76.) In the Super Senior Division, La Jolla Country Club member Michael Mahoney led from start to finish and cruised to a three-shot victory at 9-over 225 total. Jim Myers of Oceanside, Cal. and Bob Rowland of Danville, CA finished in a tie for second place at 12-over 228 total. The third Trans Senior Championship is scheduled for May 2013 at The Gallery in Tucson, Ariz.
