Riverdale wins Louisiana Club Team title
KINDER, Louis. (April 29, 2012) -- Riverlands Golf & Country Club of LaPlace had a two shot lead over OakWing Golf Club at the start of the final round of the 2012 Louisiana Golf Association Club Team Championship at Koasati Pines in Kinder.
With only three scores under par posted in the entire field today, both Riverlands of LaPlace and OakWing of Alexandria battled hard throughout in an effort to win the 2012 title. In the end, the young guns on the Riverlands squad prevailed by four strokes. Their team total of ten under par 416 bested OakWing’s six under par 420.
The Champion team from Riverlands was led by Andrew Noto, who fired a 67, the low round of the day. After birding holes 5 and 6, Noto bogeyed number 7. He rebounded on the par 5 9th hole with a birdie to make the turn at 34. Noto played a bogey free back 9 that included birdies on 12 and 14. Andrew’s brother, Jason, shot an even par 71. James Fuselier shot a 72, Rick Bratcher and Robert Doyle each had 76s, and Vernon St. Amant, shot a 77.
The runner-up squad from OakWing was led by a pair of 71s from Craig Campo and Rod Baronet. Ben Hargis and Jason Lewis shot 73 each, while Frank Brame carded a 76, and Keith Breazeale had a 77. Finishing in third place with a total of 428 was Hebert Municipal Golf Club of Lafayette, led by a pair of 71s today from Thad Weber and David Duhon.
Under par scores recorded on Sunday were: Riverlands’ Andrew Noto (67), Squirrel Run GC’s Scott Shea (70), and the Oaks at Sherwood’s Garrett Westbrook (70).
The Championship drew 15 teams from across the state. Clubs participating in the event are represented by six-man teams. Saturday’s play consisted of four-ball stroke play with each team counting the two best of their three four-ball scores. Sunday’s play consisted of individual stroke play with a team’s score being determined by the best four of six individual scores.
As indicated, the 2012 LGA Club Team Championship was conducted at Koasati Pines at Coushatta in Kinder. Playing to a par of 71 at just over 6,700 yards, the course drew rave reviews from this strong LGA field. OakWing Golf Club in Alexandria will play host to this event in 2012.
