Tyler Paldi and Jay Poletiek take control of Bandon Dunes in quest of Oregon Mid-Am title
BANDON, ORE. (Saturday, October 8, 2005) - The first round of the Oregon Mid-Amateur commenced with one of the strongest fields in the history of the event. In the Men's Division, 8 players were under par among a field with handicap indexes that maxed out at a just 1.8. The competition, open to amateur golfers age 25 and over is a 36-hole stroke play competition including the top 84-men and 36-women vying for one of the region's top amateur crowns.
Despite their late start in the day and having to conquer gusty winds that the early players did not have to confront, Tyler Paldi of Gresham, Ore. and Jay Poletiek of Portland, Ore. lead the Men's field by two strokes shooting 3-under par 69. Four other players are two strokes back at 1-under par and two players are at even par. Seventeen players are within five strokes of the lead.
In the Women's Division, Mary Budke of Eugene, Ore. and Karla Kalian of Brush Prairie, Wash. lead the field at 7-over par thru 16 holes. Just one stroke back is long time rival Marcia Fisher of Canby, Ore. They were the only group unable to complete their first round of play due to darkness, and will finish their round at 8am tomorrow.
