Ricky Jones makes it three straight in Mid Amateur Championship

YORK, ME (October 2, 2005) -- Ricky Jones of Thomaston became the first player ever in the 15-year old history of the Maine Mid Amateur Championship to win the tournament three times in a row as he held off a charging John Bauman for a one shot victory at York Golf and Tennis Club Sunday. Jones was the only player under par on the first day of this 36-hole event, as he shot 71 at The Ledges on Saturday to lead Bauman by two. Bauman, of Webhannet, has a shot to go low, but his putter let him down at the Ledges and a little shot of adrelin on the 16th hole at York -- which caused him to airmail the 16th hole leading to a double bogey -- helped to keep him off the winner's block. Although Jones wasn't happy with his four-over par 74 on Sunday, he did what he had to to win, making a tough par four on the 18th hole to clinch the win. Tom Bean of Augusta CC was the only player under par on Sunday, as he shot 69 at the par 70 York. Perhaps the best comeback of the tournament was by Paul Nichols of Sanford, who opened up with a 96 at the Ledges and came back with a 73 -- tied with Bauman for the second low round of the day -- at York. Please see below for complete two-round results of the 2005 Mid-Amateur Championship, and thank you for your continued interest in Maine golf.
