Barry Logar of Fairfield wins a sudden death playoff over Stanford freshman golfer Patrick Grimes
STEVINSON, Calif (Dec 17, 2011) -- Patrick Grimes and Berry Logar fired even par rounds of 72 on Saturday at Stevinson Ranch, then posted matching 4-over par rounds of 76 on Sunday to finish the 2011 amateurgolf.com Tour Championship in a tie.
Logar held the lead coming into Stevinson Ranch's "Amen Corner" but suffered bogeys on Nos. 16 and 17, letting Grimes back into the game. When Grimes knocked his second shot onto the par-5 18th green and two-putted for birdie, he caught Logar, forcing the playoff.
After both players made routine pars on the 10th hole, a solid par 4, Logar found trouble with his tee shot on the par-5 11th, hitting into the tall grass on the right where it took a few minutes to find his ball. Evidently it was a good lie - the 2-time USGA participant not only hit the shot of the day, he hit it to 6 inches, leaving a tap-in eagle and winning the tournament.

"I misread it," joked Logar afterwards.
Ben Whipple won the Senior Division with a very solid final round of 73 and 155 total.
His friend, and Amateurgolf.com Two Man Links Championship (Bandon Dunes) partner Sherman Haggerty finished second. Evidently they are warming up for the April/May tournament early.
Chris Ladd of Petaluma wrapped up a 14 stroke victory in the Net Division, while Vincent Steele finished second.
