Texas North Senior: Grace, Hayes Win Titles
Carrollton, Tex. (April 27, 2011) --It was no easy day for the players competing in the North Senior Amateur which was held at the Honors Golf Club of Dallas. Soft conditions and gusting winds made it extremely difficult for players looking to make a charge at first round leader, John Grace. The stage was set for a great final round battle as all three players in the final pairing are past Texas Amateur Champions. In the end John Grace left little doubt as to who the best senior amateur in northern Texas is.

Grace (Fort Worth) started with a bogey on his opening hole reducing his lead to a single shot on fellow competitor, Mark Witt (Colleyville). Grace quickly righted the ship with five straight pars and back to back birdies on holes 7 and 8 on his way to a front nine, 35. It was cruise control from then on with a birdie on 10 and a bogey on 18 giving him a final round score of one under par, 71, and a six shot victory over second place finisher, Mark Witt. Witt carded a final round 75 which included four birdies, five bogeys, and a double bogey.

In the Super Senior division, Jim Hays was never challenged as he also cruised to a six shot victory. Hays eagled the tenth hole and then birdied holes twelve and thirteen to seal his victory. Jim Hays has now captured both divisions of this championship, adding this year’s victory to his win in the Senior Division in 2009. Jerry Ransom tried to chase down Hays, but five bogeys on the back nine derailed his chances. Ransom fired rounds of 73-77 to finish alone in second place. Michael Hastings used a second round of 75, tied for lowest round of the day in the super senior division, to vault up the leader board and capture third place.
