LOCUST VALLEY, NY (August 11, 2005) -- The twelve man team representing the New Jersey State Golf Association yesterday captured the Stoddard Championship at the Par 71, 6848 yard Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley, New York. This annual invitational event has been contested each year since 1922 between the NJSGA, Long Island Golf Association, and Westchester Golf Association. This year saw the NJSGA capture the Championship with 20 points, besting Westchester with 19 ½ points, and Long Island- which finished in third place with 14 ½ points.
Some of New Jersey’s premier amateur golfers competed in this prestigious match, which included individual matches and two-man team matches. Reigning Open Champion Brian Komline of Rolling Greens, Amateur Champion Mark McGowan of Montclair, and Mid-Amateur Champion Thomas Gramigna of Tavistock highlighted the victorious NJSGA team.
The remainder of the team included NJSGA Men’s Public Links Champion Isaac Lim of Tamarack, Allan Small (who served as NJSGA Captain) and Craig Smith of Fairmount, Gregg Angelillo and Michael Deo of Montclair, Harry Goett of Ash Brook, Barry Wiseman of Royce Brook, Brent Pittman of Darlington, and Greg Stebbins of Ridgewood.
