Ontario captures Williamson Cup

LITITZ, PA (August 9, 2005) -- Team Ontario outlasted a field of nine other junior regional and state golf association squads to capture the 42nd Williamson Cup on Tuesday at Bent Creek CC (par 71, 6,550 yards). The Ontario Golf Association, comprised of Jordan Batten, John Byles, Mitchell Molen and Ryan Putnam, finished at 440, three strokes ahead of the Pennsylvania Golf Association. The Williamson Cup is a junior event that features four player teams competing in a one-day, 36-hole stroke play competition. The low three scores of the four-man team for each round count toward the final score. This was Ontario’s first victory in the Williamson Cup since recording back-to-back victories in 1998-99.This was the eighth time the Ontario Golf Association has captured the Williamson Cup. This was the first time the Golf Association of Philadelphia has served as host of the event since 1995. Nicolas Archambault, 16, of the Quebec Golf Association earned the individual medallist award by firing an even-par 141. Archambault carded a pair of 71s. The Syracuse Golf Association will host the 2006 Williamson Cup on Aug. 14-15 at Bellevue Country Club.
