Jarrett Link shoots 7-under 65 to claim individual honors while Foothill H.S. wins the team title
PATTERSON, CA – Jarrett Link captured the High School Boys’ Individual Championship at Diablo Grande with a stammering seven-under par 65, while Foothill HS collected the team title.
Link, a senior at Christian Brothers HS, birdied five of his first six holes on the back nine, with a combined total of eight birdies on the 6,534-yard course. This year’s top four individual finishers were consecutively one stroke behind each other. Alex Franklin (San Rafael) finished second, Jonathan Garrick (St. Francis – Mountain View) took third and Patrick Grimes (Menlo) tied with Nate Leblanc (Cardinal Newman) for fourth place.
Foothill HS claimed the team title with two-over-par 362, four strokes ahead of Folsom HS and Christian Brothers HS, both at six-over. Foothill HS was led by freshman Nicolo Galletti who posted a three-under par 69, followed by Brett Thawley, Roshan Chekuri, Ryan Niu, Travis Rowney and Calvin Noetzel. In a team format that takes the lowest five of six scores, Foothill HS pulled out their second victory in four years, the first coming in 2007. Last year’s team title holders, Cardinal Newman HS, fell to T7.
The top three teams will compete in next month’s State Championship at Santa Maria CC on June 8. Individual qualifiers include: Franklin (San Rafael), Garrick (St. Francis – Mountain View), Grimes (Menlo), Leblanc (Cardinal Newman), Carlos Briones (Moreau Catholic) and Michael Decker (R L Stevenson).
