Shortly after switching to the newest 4-piece Bridgestone B330 Tour ball, Nick Price notches his first Champions Tour win
COVINGTON, Georgia (April 20, 2009) -- In Tampa, Florida, this weekend, World Golf Hall of Fame member Nick Price and Bridgestone Golf teamed up for a couple of big firsts.
Using a field-leading 18 birdies, Price recorded his first-ever career Champions Tour victory and the first professional win of any kind for the new 4-piece Bridgestone TOUR B330 golf ball. Price set the last 6 holes of TPC Tampa Bay golf course ablaze on Sunday, registering three birdies in a row on three of the final six holes (#13, #14 and #15), including the most difficult hole on the course (#15) to record a two-stroke victory, posting a three-round total of 204 (9-under par).
"Nick visited our R&D Test site just last week, while the Masters was going on, and it was very evident by the way that he was striking the ball that it was only a matter of time until he broke through on the Champions Tour," said Dan Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing Bridgestone Golf, Inc. "We're ecstatic for Nick and we are pleased to be part of yet another milestone in his illustrious career."
Price utilized the incredible feel and consistency of the new B330 to finish at or near the top of several statistical categories in the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am. Price finished 1st in putts per greens-in-regulation (1.55), 1st in total birdies (18), 3rd in putts per round (27), T6th in Driving Accuracy (85.7%) and T11th in greens-in-regulation (74.1%). In addition, Price recorded one of his best weeks in driving distance - averaging 274.5 yards off the tee - including a blistering 297 yards average off the tee in the first round.
"I am really excited to have my first Champions Tour win with the new B330 golf ball," said Price. "I've used a Bridgestone ball in most of the landmark achievements of my professional career, and in this day and age, I think it is truly special when an equipment company has been with you for such a long time. When players are switching from company-to-company every two or three years, having the relationship I have with the guys at Bridgestone gives me a tremendous amount of confidence."
NEW TOUR B330
The 2009 version of the Bridgestone Golf TOUR B330 features Bridgestone's brand new dual-mantle 4-piece construction technology. While some 4-piece balls feature a dual core, the Bridgestone TOUR B330 has dual mantle layers, providing several advantages over other 4-piece premium balls on the market.
For instance, the new inner mantle used in both balls provides reduced spin and a smoother energy transition resulting in even more distance off the tee. The inner mantle also performs better in windy conditions, giving the ball flight a more piercing trajectory making it less apt to be affected by sudden gusts. Furthermore, the new B330 features a softer core and cover for increased touch on the greens and even better spin performance on half wedge shots.
The new B330 utilizes Bridgestone's Gradational Compression Technology in its core to produce greater repulsion, resulting in unparalleled distance off the tee.
The 2009 B330 family of balls feature a street price of $42.99 per dozen (suggested retail price of $56 per dozen) and are available now at golf specialty stores and green grass retailers nationwide.
