Final-qualifier Ryder Cowan set the pace for the amateur class, posting a 2-under 68 to sit inside the top 10 and atop the low-amateur race. World No. 1 Jackson Koivun and NCAA champ Preston Stout — the pre-tournament low-am favorites — opened at 2-over 72, four back of Cowan. Several amateurs were still on the course as the afternoon wave played out.
