A 17-shot turnaround fuels Tarleton State’s comeback win, while Louise Depadt defends her individual title
Tarleton State delivered a composed comeback to win its second straight Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Golf Championship, posting a 25-over 889 (306-289-294) to finish 11 shots clear of the field.
After opening in fourth with an 18-over first round, the Texans flipped the tournament with a 17-shot improvement in round two, moving into a share of the lead. They carried that momentum into the final day, gradually stretching their advantage on the back nine to seal the title—and a second consecutive NCAA Regional berth.
Abilene Christian finished runner-up at 36-over 900 (298-297-305), while UT Arlington placed third at 40-over 904 (304-303-297).
Louise Depadt led from the front, successfully defending her individual title at 1-over 217 (74-71-72). The junior stayed steady across all three rounds, pulling ahead early in the final round and never relinquishing control. Teammate Lou Deltombe completed a strong comeback of her own to finish runner-up at 3-over 219 (76-70-73), while sophomore Natalia Fiel Ros added depth with a T-8 finish at 9-over 225 (77-71-77).
Tarleton’s edge showed in the numbers as well. The Texans led the field in par-5 scoring (4.92 average) and total birdies (40), well ahead of Abilene Christian’s 30. Individually, Fiel Ros topped the field in par-5 scoring at 4.67.
More than anything, this was a win built on resilience—bouncing back from a slow start and closing with control when it mattered most.54 hole college tournament hosted by Western Athletic Conference. Team (best four scores out of five players each round) and individual competitions
