Top seeds Ryan Carter and Andres Gonzales advance

Ryan Carter, a Fresno State University golfer from Hacienda Heights, CA
knocked out his first round opponent Jacop Koppenberg of Everett, WA
2-up in the round of 64 matches Wednesday at the 104th Pacific Northwest
Amateur Championship. Carter who shot qualifying rounds of 65 and 67,
to become the stroke play medalist for the second time in as many years
never trailed in his match today and will advance to the round of 32
matches where he will face Kyle Wesolowski of Graham, WA.
On the opposite side of the bracket, second seed Andres Gonzales who
shot qualifying rounds of 70 and 63 during the stroke play portion, also
continued his solid play and will advance to the round of 32 matches on
Thursday where he will face Brandon Hjelseth of University Place, WA.
In today’s match Gonzales had never led and found himself 2-down to
Jared Bouchey of Olympia, WA after 10-holes, before winning holes 11, 13,
14, 15, 16 to close out the match 3&2.
Others advancing to the round of 32 include WSU golfers David Fern the
defending champion (over Colin Wilcox in 21 holes), Jordan Madison
(over Derek Siesser in 19-holes), Kevin Chen (5 & 4 over UCLA golfer Craig
Leslie) and Jordan Mason (3 & 2 over Andrew Ellis), UW golfer Travis
Andrews (1-up over Cole Alford), University of Tulsa golfer Sam Korbe (4
& 3 over Maxton Reinland), Pepperdine University golfer Alex Coe (3 & 2
over Joseph Price), former Seattle Mariners pitcher and ’05 Oregon Open
Champion Eric Hanson (1-up over Jason Aichele), Liam Kendregan, the
2004 PNGA Men’s Amateur runner-up (4 & 3 over Brien Flannigan), Recent WWU
graduate and ’05 Seattle Amateur Champion Josh Immordino (4 & 3 over
Tom Brandes), New Zealand golfer Riki Kauika (3 & 1 over Kellen Eakin)
Matches continue Thursday with the round of 32 starting at 7:30 a.m.
from the first tee. Winners will advance to the afternoon round of 16
starting from the first tee at 12:30 p.m.
