USC held its nerve in tough desert conditions, with Luke Stock’s late birdie sealing a one-shot win over Arkansas State
USC fired 26-under 838 to win by one shot over Arkansas State at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
The Trojans entered the final round tied for the lead at 22-under alongside Grand Canyon after a 6-under 282 in a second round that was suspended due to darkness. A congested 25-team field forced a 36-hole day, with play stretching into fading light before resuming and finishing in hot, windy conditions at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes.
It came down to the final hole.
Tied with Arkansas State late, USC closed it out on the par-5 finishing hole, where three players made par and Luke Stock delivered the decisive moment—converting a birdie after a recovery and up-and-down to seal the title.
USC’s closing 284 was enough to edge Arkansas State (273-283-283, 25-under 839), while Grand Canyon (274-280-287) finished third at 23-under 841. UNLV, last year’s winner, placed fourth at 19-under 845 (285-280-280). Defending champion Long Beach State did not compete.
The win is USC’s third of the season.
In the individual race, Arkansas senior Thomas Schmidt won by two at 13-under 203 (67-67-69), collecting his second title of the season. His total ties the 10th-lowest 54-hole mark in program history and gives him a record sixth career medalist honor.
USC placed two players inside the top five, with Luke Stock and Jack Buchanan finishing T-3 at 10-under 206. Stock (66-69-71) produced the tournament-clinching birdie, while Buchanan (67-69-70) added his second top-five finish of the season.
