Texas Tech erased a final-round deficit to beat No. 1 Auburn, while Florida State’s Tyler Weaver earned Valspar exemption in 2027
Texas Tech delivered a statement win at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, chasing down No. 1 Auburn and overpowering one of the strongest fields of the season.
The No. 10 Red Raiders fired a tournament-record 45 under 807 (273-267-267) at Floridian National Golf Club to claim a six-shot victory in Palm City, Florida. Starting the final round two shots behind Auburn, Texas Tech surged past the top-ranked Tigers with a closing 267 and never looked back.
Auburn finished second at 39 under 813 (264-274-275), while No. 6 Texas placed third at 34 under, 11 shots behind the winners. No. 7 Arkansas followed in fourth.
The win marked Texas Tech’s first team title since the 2024 All-American Collegiate and continued a strong spring after back-to-back runner-up finishes at The Prestige and The Hayt. It also set a new tournament scoring record, eclipsing the previous mark of 36 under 816 set by Texas.
Texas Tech’s depth proved decisive, with three players finishing inside the top 15. Junior Ben Gregg led the way with a T-3 finish at 13 under 200 (68-66-66), while junior Tim Wiedemeyer placed T-7 at 12 under 201 (71-64-66). Sophomore Connor Graham added a T-13 finish at 9 under 204 (68-69-67).
In the individual competition, Florida State junior Tyler Weaver emerged victorious after a one-hole sudden-death playoff against Oklahoma’s Ryder Cowan. Weaver closed at 15 under 198, securing his second collegiate title and earning an exemption into the 2027 Valspar Championship.
Weaver’s final round featured a late surge. After birdies on Nos. 8, 11, and 13, he produced the shot of the day with an eagle on the par-5 15th to tie for the lead. A birdie on 17 pulled him level again, and he sealed the win on the first playoff hole.
The 198 total tied for the fourth-lowest score in tournament history and marked one of the best 54-hole performances in Florida State program history. A year after finishing T-42 at this event, Weaver returned to the top of the leaderboard in emphatic fashion.
