Holding a four-shot lead entering the final round, former pro Coy Dobson closed with 70 to secure a commanding five-shot victory
Coy Dobson never let the field close the gap at the Texas South Mid-Amateur, turning a final-round lead into a commanding victory at Forest Creek Golf Club.
The 33-year-old former PGA Tour Latinoamérica player—now reinstated as an amateur and based in Austin—posted rounds of 67-71-70 to finish at 8-under par, securing a five-shot win in Round Rock.
Dobson set the tone early, opening with a 67 to take control of the tournament before maintaining his advantage through the middle round. He entered the final day at 6-under, holding a four-shot lead, and never wavered. His closing 70—one of just two under-par rounds on Sunday—was more than enough to keep the chasing pack at bay.
John Beringer of San Antonio (73-67-73) and Austin’s Josh Goldstein (70-71-72) shared runner-up honors at 3-under 213, but neither mounted a serious challenge down the stretch.
The week also saw an early exit for defending champion Broc Heyman, a three-time winner of the event, who withdrew after rounds of 72-76. Daniel Depasquale, the 2022 edition champion, finished 6th at 2-over (72-71-75).
In the Mid-Master division (ages 40+), Casey Carnes of Schertz claimed a two-shot victory, posting rounds of 67-75-74 to finish at even-par 216.
The Texas South Mid-Amateur features 84 players competing over 54 holes of stroke play with no cut, while also recognizing the low Mid-Master (40+) performer.
Beyond the title, the championship carries added significance in the season-long South Regional Player of the Year race, with points awarded to the top 30 finishers and ties.

Eligibility: Entries are open to male amateur golfers who are 25 years of age or older by the tournament start date and residing in the South Texas region as defined by the Texas PGA Sections (South of 31 degree parallel, Salado TX and south is break...
