Utes hold off Georgia Southern for their first win of the season while Matthew Lin and Jacob Modleski earn medalist honors
The No. 26 Utah men’s golf team captured the Schenkel Invitational for the second straight year, finishing at 21-under 843 (281-268-294) at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia.
Utah held off host Georgia Southern, which finished runner-up at 17-under (278-276-293). The victory marked the Utes’ first tournament title of the 2025–26 season and their third top-three finish, following strong showings earlier this year at the Wohali (3rd) and Tindall (runner-up) events.
In the individual competition, Yale sophomore Matthew Lin and Notre Dame junior Jacob Modleski shared medalist honors at 13-under 203.
The title was Lin’s second collegiate win, following his victory at the Columbia Spring Invitational last March. For Modleski, it marked his third career medalist honor, adding to wins at the Johnnie-O Collegiate in 2024 and the ACC Individual Championship in 2025.
Utah placed three players inside the top 20, led by senior Brandon Robinson, who finished T-5 at 9-under (67-65-75).
Junior Sergio Jimenez finished T-12 at 6-under (67-67-76), while senior Davis Johnson placed T-19 at 2-under (75-64-75).
Johnson provided one of the standout moments of the tournament in the second round, firing a career-best 8-under 64. The round helped give the Utes a cushion heading into the final day of play and proved pivotal in securing the team’s victory.
