Six amateurs teed it up in the Puerto Rico Open field, and Kihei Akina delivered the round of the day among the group — an opening 4-under 68 that has him T4 after Thursday.
Two of the biggest names in the amateur contingent also got off to strong starts. John Daly II posted a 2-under 70 (T21), while Miles Russell opened with a steady 1-under 71 (T39) to sit comfortably inside the early mix.
