The Waves led wire-to-wire at North Ranch, finishing 17 clear as San Diego State’s Harry Takis stole medalist honours
Pepperdine left no doubt at the Southwestern Invitational.
The win also nudged the tournament’s recent Pepperdine lore back into view. Sahith Theegala led the Waves to both the team and individual titles in 2017 and again in 2020, before going on to sweep the Haskins, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus Awards in 2020 and later became a PGA TOUR winner.
No. 29 San Diego State finished runner-up at 6-over 846 (281-279-286), with UNLV third at 7-over 847 (278-290-279). Defending champions Texas did not play this week, having been tied up winning the National Invitational on Tuesday night by one over host Arizona.
Medalist honours went to San Diego State sophomore Harry Takis, who closed with an even-par 70 for a two-shot win at 7-under 203 (67-66-70). Pepperdine senior Brady Siravo was second at 5-under 205 (68-66-71).
Pepperdine’s separation came from depth. The Waves put three players inside the top 10—Siravo runner-up, Willy Walsh T-4 at 2-under, and Byungho Lee T-6 at 1-under—with Mahanth Chirravuri just outside at T-11 (1-over).
