Duke freshman Rianne Malixi fired a stunning closing 63 to claim her first collegiate title
Rianne Malixi’s spring could not have begun with a louder statement — even as Florida reminded everyone why it remains the team to beat.
The Duke freshman closed with a spectacular 9-under 63 to win the Sea Best Intercollegiate at San Jose Country Club in Jacksonville, finishing at 16-under 200 and claiming her first collegiate title by two shots. The round tied the lowest 18-hole score on a par-72 course in Duke history, while her 54-hole total of 200 set a new school record.
But the team trophy stayed with the defending champions.
No. 8 Florida successfully defended its title by a single stroke, posting 28-under 836 (277-279-280) to edge Duke, which finished one back at 27-under (290-273-274) after a closing surge.
Paula Francisco anchored Florida’s win with a bogey-free final-round 67 to finish runner-up at 14-under 202 — tying the lowest 54-hole score in program history. She delivered the decisive moment with a clutch birdie on the 18th as Duke applied late pressure.
Malixi and Francisco were tied at 13-under deep into the final round before Malixi pulled away with four closing birdies.
“I played really well this week,” Malixi said. “I’ll credit that to my exceptional iron play and consistency off the tee.”
Florida’s depth showed again, with Siuue Wu finishing third at 9-under and Megan Propeck adding a top-six. For Duke, Malixi’s breakthrough headline win came within a shot of a team comeback — a sign of what could be a defining spring ahead.
