A steady Sunday 69 earned Kayun Mudadana his first Avondale title; Ella Scaysbrook was never challenged
Kayun Mudadana didn’t need anything flashy on Sunday — just a solid score and a little patience.
The New South Wales golfer closed with a 2-under 69 to win the Avondale Amateur at Avondale Golf Club at 10-under 274, signing for rounds of 71-68-66-69. He started the final round T-2 at 8-under, two behind Max Maclean-Russell at the top, and chipped away until the lead flipped.
Jamie Van Wyk made it tight but finished one back at 9-under 275 with rounds of 69-64-73-69.
Maclean-Russell couldn’t hold onto the 54-hole advantage and ended up T-3 at 7-under, alongside Joshua Fuller and Blake Phillips. Russell posted 66-68-69-74, Phillips 67-68-70-72, and Fuller 66-68-72-71.
For Mudadana, it’s another stamp on a busy 2025. He played 21 ranked events, won three times — the South Australia Amateur Classic in March, the NSW Cup in September and the UAE Cup in December — and added eight more top-10 finishes. Two weeks ago, he was also T-3 at the Australian Master of the Amateurs, alongside Van Wyk.

Scaysbrook’s run at Avondale now stretches back-to-back. Last year she beat Sophia Eppelstun by four with rounds of 71-71-67-70 for a 13-under total. In 2025, she played 20 ranked events, won the Avondale Bowl in January and the NSW Silver Cup in September, and logged 10 more top-10 finishes. Her 2026 has started with a T-4 at the Women’s Australian Master of the Amateurs and a T-12 at the Women’s Vic Open on the WPGA Tour of Australasia.

One of the top events in Australia, the Avondale Amateur consists of a men’s field of 120 players competing for the Avondale Medal. Players from the UK, Europe, Asia and the Americas compete in the event against the very best Australian players. 72 h...
