Michael La Sasso is going LIV, joining Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC and passing on the 2026 Masters.
Reigning NCAA men’s individual champion Michael La Sasso is turning professional and joining LIV Golf, a decision that ends his college career at Ole Miss and forfeits an automatic exemption into the 2026 Masters Tournament.
La Sasso, 21, announced Tuesday that he will compete for Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC, embracing LIV’s team format and global schedule as his first step into the professional ranks.
“It’s a rare opportunity to learn from one of the greatest players in the history of the game,” La Sasso said in a statement. “LIV Golf allows me to compete at the highest level on a global stage, and I thrive in a team environment, especially one with the camaraderie and support that defines HyFlyers GC.”
As a junior at Ole Miss, La Sasso captured the NCAA individual title and helped lead the Rebels to the semifinals of the NCAA Team Championship. He also tested his game against pro fields in 2025, making six PGA Tour starts as an amateur. He missed the cut in five of those events, but made the weekend at the 3M Open, where he finished T-44 at 11-under par.
La Sasso joins a HyFlyers GC roster that includes Mickelson, Brendan Steele, and Cameron Tringale. Mickelson praised the reigning NCAA champion’s upside and fit with the team.
“Michael is one of the most exciting young players in the game today, bringing a competitive fire that’s evident every time he tees it up,” Mickelson said in a statement. “He combines tremendous power and speed with an exceptional feel for the game. Beyond his talent, his personality, work ethic, and commitment to being a great teammate make him a terrific addition to HyFlyers GC.”
The signing arrives during a notable stretch for LIV’s roster movement, as the league continues to pursue top young talent while navigating high-profile departures. For La Sasso, it is a direct leap from college stardom into one of golf’s most scrutinized professional environments, with immediate opportunities to compete alongside established veterans.
