The Patriot All-America tees off today at The Wigwam, with elite men’s and women’s fields competing while honoring military heroes
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — The first round of the Patriot All-America Invitational begins today at The Wigwam Golf Resort, opening three days of 54-hole stroke-play competition for elite men’s and women’s collegiate golfers and continuing one of the most meaningful traditions in amateur golf.
The Patriot All-America stands apart for its unique mission: players compete for prestigious titles while also honoring military heroes and first responders throughout the week. At the opening ceremony, each golfer receives and carries a commemorative PING golf bag bearing the name and branch of a fallen or wounded hero. Players also have the opportunity to visit Luke Air Force Base, the training center for the nation’s F-35 fighter pilots, where they meet with the Base Commander, fighter pilots and crew, tour the base, and participate in activities rarely seen by civilians.

Men’s and Women’s Divisions at The Wigwam
The Patriot brings men’s and women’s divisions together in one championship week, showcasing many of the top players in college golf. The men compete on The Wigwam’s Gold Course, while the women play the Blue Course, two championship layouts that have helped make this event a can’t-miss stop on the year-end amateur calendar.
Over time, the Patriot has continued to grow in stature, regularly attracting a national collection of PING All-Americans and standout players from across NCAA Divisions I, II and III, along with NAIA and NJCAA programs and select special invitees. With deep fields and a demanding 54-hole format, the tournament has become a measuring stick for the next wave of talent.
The Thunderbolt Runs Concurrently in Surprise
In addition to the Patriot, the Thunderbolt is being contested on the same dates as a companion championship. Played at Sterling Grove Golf + Country Club in Surprise, Arizona, the Thunderbolt was created to accommodate additional elite players who met initial eligibility standards but did not make the Patriot field.
Named after the Air Force P-47 Thunderbolt, the event has quickly become a significant tournament in its own right. The Thunderbolt field includes top-ranked amateurs and collegiate standouts, and its players also represent fallen or wounded heroes, with biographies attached to their bags in support of Folds of Honor.
2024 Champions Set the Bar
Last year’s Patriot featured record-setting performances. In the women’s division, University of Texas senior Bohyun Park closed with a final-round 63 to set a Patriot Women’s Division scoring record, finishing at 15-under par (195) to win the Folded Flag trophy.
In the men’s division, Ole Miss junior Cameron Tankersley finished at 10-under par (200), winning by three shots after steady play across the Gold Course.
At Sterling Grove, University of Denver’s Zander Grant captured the 2024 Thunderbolt title at 10-under par (206), securing the win with a final-round 70 and edging Midwestern State’s Seth Bearden by one shot.
What to Watch This Week
With first-round action underway today, the Patriot All-America once again blends world-class amateur competition with a week-long tribute that adds meaning to every round. Over the next three days, the men’s and women’s leaderboards will take shape at The Wigwam while the Thunderbolt unfolds in Surprise — all within an event that continues to grow as one of the premier year-end championships in amateur golf.
