Round 1 at Torrey Pines opened in a thick coastal fog, with visibility under 30 yards early and players forced to lean on yardage books and feel instead of laser numbers. Even with the eerie start, the scoring stayed solid in demanding conditions.
With the Farmers Insurance Open just a month away, Torrey was set up in tour-level form — thick, penal rough and firm, exacting targets. It was a day where finding fairways mattered, and saving pars from the rough mattered even more.
Father-Son Division (Gross): Aiden Canada and Darren Canada took early control with a 3-under 69, edging Donald Miller and Zachary Miller at 70 (-2). Jeremy Smith/Michael Smith and Connor O’Toole/Thomas O’Toole sit close behind after even-par 72s.
Two Man Links Open Division (Gross): Dale Syta and Mark Ramos lead after posting 73 (+1), opening a two-shot cushion over Jeff Lane/Robert Stone at 75 (+3). Barry Castle and Russell Johnson are third at 76 (+4).
As the fog finally lifted and the Pacific reappeared, the test remained the same. Players return tomorrow expecting clearer skies — and the same Torrey rough that makes every shot count.
For 25 years, AmateurGolf.com has taken competitive amateurs to the most storied destinations in the game — Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, Sand Valley. This week, the journey feels different.
Tomorrow, the Two-Man Links & Father-Son Championship at Torrey Pines begins, marking the first time we’ve hosted a championship event in our own backyard — on the same cliffs, fairways, and greens that have defined San Diego golf for generations.
It’s a milestone moment for the company, and a bucket-list opportunity for the players teeing it up.
Torrey Pines South Course is woven into modern golf history. It’s where Tiger Woods authored one of the greatest performances ever at the 2008 U.S. Open. It’s hosted two U.S. Opens, countless PGA TOUR events, and most recently welcomed the world’s best at the 2025 Genesis Invitational.
This week, it belongs to competitive amateurs.
Players will experience both Torrey Pines North and South, with the championship round finishing at Coronado Golf Course, a scenic and strategic coastal test that provides a fitting close to the week.
The event features a 54-hole best-ball format, open to all two-person teams, including a dedicated Father & Son Championship that competes for divisional honors while remaining eligible for overall titles.
Divisions include:
Net scoring will be played at 80% of course handicap, with yardages set up to reward strong ball-striking while remaining playable for all divisions.
Beyond the golf, this event delivers the full AmateurGolf.com championship experience:
From sunrise tee shots above the Pacific to evenings at one of San Diego’s premier resorts, the week blends elite competition with an unforgettable setting.
Hosting a championship at Torrey Pines has been years in the making. With AmateurGolf.com headquartered just up the road, bringing the Two-Man Links to San Diego represents both a homecoming and a statement — that elite amateur competition belongs on the game’s biggest stages.
For players, it’s a chance to walk in the footsteps of legends. For families and partners, it’s three days of shared competition at a place that rarely opens its doors this wide. And for AmateurGolf.com, it’s the start of a new chapter.
Opening tee times begin tomorrow morning at Torrey Pines North, with championship storylines set to develop quickly as teams chase both gross and net titles.
Live updates, highlights, and final results will be posted throughout the week on AmateurGolf.com.
