Stimmel, Pearson, Fried and Osborne headline a dominant week at Hammock Beach.
Warm, calm conditions returned for Wednesday’s final round at The Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort, and the field took full advantage — 25 players posted even par or better, a sharp contrast to the tougher scoring on day two.
Pittsburgh’s Rick Stimmel rallied from one shot behind to win the Senior Division at 10-under 206, overtaking leader Kevin VandenBerg with a five-birdie surge through the middle of his round before sealing the championship with an eagle on the par-5 18th. VandenBerg finished runner-up at 7-under and secured Senior Player of the Year honors, while Todd Doss placed third at 5-under.
“I hit such a nice shot in on 18 — and made the eagle to seal it.”
— Rick Stimmel
Charlotte’s James Pearson capped a standout season by winning the Super Senior title at 2-under 214, edging Michael O’Donnell by one shot after a back-and-forth duel down the stretch. Pearson’s steady two-putt on their final hole proved decisive, and he also wrapped up Super Senior Player of the Year honors.
“It came down to the very end, and it was really, really fun.”
— James Pearson
Hammock Beach member and club champion Marc Fried overcame a triple bogey on his second hole and erased a four-shot deficit with six to play before defeating Don Donatoni in a sudden-death playoff. Mark Weston finished third and earned Legend Player of the Year honors.
“If you told me I was going to win after that triple, I wouldn’t have believed you.”
— Marc Fried
Charlottesville’s John Osborne won the Super Legend title at +3, pulling ahead late after a tightly contested round in which no player led by more than one stroke for most of the day. A birdie on his 16th hole gave him the breathing room he needed to finish two shots clear of Pete Allen. Sam Robinson and George Dillon tied for third at +6, with Robinson also securing Super Legend Player of the Year honors.
“It was neck and neck all day — a lot of ups and downs.”
— John Osborne
