He had only just scraped into match play as the 15th seed, but then upset top qualifier Callum Yates 2&1, swept past Jack Harlen-Robertson 6&5, and held off Jonty Lunson 2&1 to reach the title match. “It wasn’t pretty golf,” he said. “But I did what I had to. Winning the Tassie Amateur — and ending an 11-year wait for a local champion — feels pretty special.”

In the women’s event, Knevitt made her long trip from the Gold Coast count. After qualifying in a tie for second, she edged Lorissa Dobson by one in the quarterfinals, beat Jessie Richmond 3&2 in the semis, and closed out Victoria’s Grace Yang 4&2 in the final. “My drives were straight and my pressure putts were really good,” she said. “I’ve never won a major event, so this feels amazing.”
