Megha Ganne Captures 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur Title at Bandon Dunes

Stanford senior delivers steady ball-striking and clutch putting to defeat Brooke Biermann, 4 & 3, in windswept final.

Bandon, Ore. — Megha Ganne (Holmdel, N.J.), the 21-year-old Stanford standout who first turned heads as a 17-year-old low amateur at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open, is now a USGA champion. Ganne defeated Brooke Biermann (Wildwood, Mo.) 4 & 3 in the 36-hole final at the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur, mastering gusts over 25 mph with patience, precision, and a fearless short game.

Ganne, No. 11 in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking, seized control with birdies on 13 and 15 in the morning round to go 3 up at lunch. She never trailed in the afternoon, matching Biermann’s rallies with timely par saves and closing the match on the 33rd hole with a two-putt par from 20 feet.

A Final Built on Resilience

Ganne’s road to the trophy was paved with comebacks, including a 4-down rally in the semifinals against Australian Ella Scaysbrook. Her ability to close under pressure — honed through Curtis Cup wins, NCAA titles, and years under coach Katie Rudolph — was on full display in Sunday’s wind-whipped finale.

Biermann’s Strong Run

Biermann, a Michigan State graduate, reached the final after surviving three extra-hole matches during the week, including a 19-hole semifinal win over Lyla Louderbaugh. She battled through the elements again on Sunday, but could not overcome Ganne’s consistent ball-striking and deft touch around the greens.

Wind Still the Co-Star

The Bandon Dunes breeze — a defining character all week — demanded flighted trajectories and conservative targets. Ganne’s ability to keep her ball under the wind and avoid big mistakes proved decisive.

Biermann, Ganne Set for 36‑Hole Championship Showdown at Bandon Dunes

Both semifinals at the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur needed extra holes, setting up a dramatic final between Brooke Biermann and Megha Ganne.

Bandon, Ore. — Semifinal Saturday at the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur turned Bandon Dunes into a stage for comebacks, clutch putts, and extra‑hole drama. For just the third time in championship history — and the second in the past seven years — both semifinals went beyond 18. The result: a Sunday 36‑hole final between two pressure‑tested contenders, Brooke Biermann and Megha Ganne.

Ganne’s Rally Stuns Scaysbrook

Stanford senior Megha Ganne (Holmdel, N.J.), No. 11 in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking, trailed Australian Ella Scaysbrook by 4 down with seven to play. When Scaysbrook buried a 40‑footer on 11, momentum seemed settled — but Ganne flipped the script, taking the par‑3 12th, capitalizing on a missed short birdie putt by Scaysbrook at 13, and squaring the match with a par on 17.

Matching bogeys on 18 sent them to the par‑4 19th (No. 10). Scaysbrook flew her approach long from inside 100 yards and Ganne’s birdie was conceded for a 19‑hole win.

“I’ve won so many matches from 2, 3, 4 down,” Ganne said. “Matches start on the back nine no matter what the score says.”

Biermann Survives Louderbaugh’s Late Charge

Brooke Biermann (Wildwood, Mo.), a 2025 Michigan State graduate, led Lyla Louderbaugh by 3 up with three to play — until the Kansas left‑hander poured in birdies of 15 and 35 feet on 17 and 18 to force extras. It was Biermann’s third extra‑hole match of the week; this time, after Louderbaugh’s approach ran long on the 19th, Biermann calmly two‑putted for par to advance, also in 19 holes.

“Coming down the stretch she threw everything she had,” Biermann said. “I just tried to stay calm and hit good shots.”

Wind Still the Co‑Star

For the third straight day, Bandon Dunes asked for flighted trajectories and patient course management. While gusts eased slightly from Friday’s mid‑30s, sustained coastal wind again turned par into a premium and rewarded the players who kept the ball under the breeze.

  • The champion secures an automatic spot on the 2026 USA Curtis Cup Team.
  • Biermann aims to become the first Michigan State player to win a women’s USGA title.
  • Ganne looks to add her name to Stanford’s championship lineage and cap a seventh Women’s Am appearance with the Robert Cox Trophy.

Quarterfinal Recap — Wind, Will, and Two Thrillers

Bandon finally bared its teeth. After three relatively gentle days, Friday’s quarterfinals turned into a survival exam. Tee balls rode crosswinds, approaches bored through the breeze, and putts wobbled in gusts. The four who kept their balance are moving on.

Brooke Biermann def. Arianna Lau, 3&2

The Michigan State alum leaned on ball-striking and nerve. After Lau chipped in for eagle to briefly flip momentum, Biermann stuffed a wedge to 3 feet on 11 to square it, then captured 12 and 13 to seize control. Pars at 15 and 16 closed out the No. 64 seed’s spirited run.

Lyla Louderbaugh def. Kiara Romero, 20 holes

Romero, the world No. 1 and Oregon fan favorite, clawed back from 2 down with two to play to force extras. On the 20th, Louderbaugh—who won the NCAA Columbus Regional by eight earlier this year—two-putted from 25 feet after Romero missed from 15, sealing the biggest win of her career and keeping alive a bid to become the first left-handed Women’s Am champion.

Ella Scaysbrook def. Taylor Kehoe, 5&4

The Australian 63-seed is embracing the breeze. She poured in a long opener from the fringe, then won three straight around the turn— including an eagle at the par-5 ninth— to pull away. From wedge on 11 earlier in the week to 7-wood today, she solved the wind and never looked back.

Megha Ganne def. Eila Galitsky, 2&1

The Stanford All-American played the equivalent of two-under in the gusts, building a 3-up cushion with birdies at 6 and 7. Galitsky—one of the longest hitters in the field—trimmed it to 1 down, but Ganne’s low-flighted approaches and tidy lag-putting shut the door on 17.

Why Each Contender Can Win

  • Brooke Biermann (USA): Pressure-putting résumé this week (22- and 19-hole wins before a composed 3&2 QF); flighted irons have traveled best in the gusts.
  • Megha Ganne (USA): Elite control under the wind and big-match experience (low am at 2021 U.S. Women’s Open, Stanford anchor); three straight wins over top-20 WAGR players.
  • Lyla Louderbaugh (USA): Riding a spring surge (NCAA Columbus medalist by eight; Kansas Women’s Am winner); lefty ball-flight carving through Bandon’s crosswinds.
  • Ella Scaysbrook (AUS): Match-play poise and links savvy; emerged from a 15-for-6 playoff and keeps leveling up—now two rounds from a Jensen-Castle-style fairytale.
