A Legacy of Greatness Begins Anew in Rochester
The Monroe Invitational returns to Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, New York from July 23–26, 2025, showcasing one of the strongest amateur fields of the summer. Renowned for its rich history and demanding format, the tournament features 72 holes of stroke play with a 54-hole cut after three rounds. With a collection of elite college and mid-amateur talent competing on a classic Donald Ross design, drama is all but guaranteed.
A Tradition of Champions
Founded in 1937, the Monroe Invitational has seen many future stars walk its fairways. Tiger Woods reached the semifinals here in 1993. Recent winners include Dustin Johnson (2007), Thomas Pieters (2012), and Andy Ogletree (2019)—each of whom went on to success at the professional level.
What Will It Take This Week?
Monroe plays to a championship layout of 6,971 yards (Par 70), with long, demanding par 4s and slick, multi-tiered greens. The winning score typically lands between 6 and 10 under, but conditions may push that lower or higher. This year’s forecast includes calm breezes and firm turf—ideal for low scoring early in the week, but likely to reward precision as the course tightens heading into the weekend.
Can Cooper Smith Go Back-to-Back?
Defending champion Cooper Smith won in thrilling fashion in 2024, emerging from a four-man playoff after finishing at 7-under. He returns to Rochester looking to defend his title against a loaded field that includes fellow 2024 contenders Carter Loflin, Drew Doyle, and Kyle Downey. With a wave of rising collegiate talent joining them, expect a fierce battle for the Monroe crown.
