The New England Amateur Championship returns for its 96th playing from July 15–17, 2025, hosted at Vermont’s scenic Neshobe Golf Club. As one of the oldest regional amateur titles in the United States, the championship brings together top players from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

Event Format and Details

This year's championship will feature 54 holes of stroke play with 144 players teeing it up. After 36 holes, the low 60 scorers and ties will advance to the final round. Practice rounds are available by appointment through the pro shop, with competitors limited to one round at $25 per player using the BLUE tee markers (~6,500 yards, Par 72).

Caddies are allowed but not required, while automotive transportation is prohibited. Push/pull carts are permitted. The NEGA will offer complimentary lunches for competitors each day of the event.

Starting times and player information will be emailed to all entrants and posted on the event's live scoring page. The winner will claim the Harry B. McCracken, Jr. Trophy along with a merchandise certificate redeemable at Neshobe Golf Club.

Historic Championship Legacy

First played in 1926, the New England Amateur is synonymous with tradition and high-level amateur competition. Past champions include PGA Tour standouts like Brad Faxon, Billy Andrade, Tim Petrovic, and J.J. Henry.

The rotating host schedule ensures players experience some of the region’s most celebrated courses, fostering strong rivalries and deep respect for New England golf heritage.

2024 Championship Recap

C.J. Winchenbaugh celebrates after winning the 2024 New England Amateur

Last year’s championship at Laconia Country Club (NH) delivered one of the most dramatic final rounds in event history. Incoming Georgetown freshman C.J. Winchenbaugh began the day eight shots off the lead at even par. Facing a tight travel schedule for the U.S. Junior Amateur, he produced a record-setting round of 11-under 61, featuring an albatross on the par-5 13th.

That jaw-dropping finish forced a playoff with 2020 champion John Broderick, which Winchenbaugh won by sinking a lengthy birdie putt on the first extra hole. The win secured his exemption into this year’s field in Vermont.
