Learn how the USGA’s National Development Program Grant supports junior golfers with up to $15,000 in funding

The United States Golf Association (USGA) is investing in the future of American golf through its U.S. National Development Program™ (USNDP). Designed to identify, train, develop, fund, and support the nation’s most promising junior golfers, the USNDP ensures that talent—not resources—decides who reaches the game’s highest levels.

By removing financial barriers and delivering vital player-development resources, the program makes American junior golf more equitable, competitive, and globally dominant.

What is the U.S. National Development Program?

The U.S. National Development Program is the USGA’s most ambitious initiative to support and elevate American junior golf talent. It ensures that every talented player has a fair chance to compete, improve, and progress—regardless of background or geography.

Historically, success in junior golf has often depended on access to coaching, travel, tournaments, and equipment—resources that many families couldn’t afford. The USNDP is designed to remove those barriers so that talent—not wealth—determines who rises.

Why Was the USNDP Created?

The USGA recognizes that for American golf to remain the world leader, it must foster all of its talent. Many countries have national programs that help young players develop and compete internationally. The USNDP is America’s answer: a unified, strategic approach to developing future champions.

By funding athletes, offering development tools, and setting consistent standards, the USNDP aims to build a sustainable pipeline of elite talent for the sport.

How Does It Affect Amateur Golf?

The USNDP isn’t just about creating pros—it’s about strengthening all of amateur golf:

  • More competitive fields: Supporting juniors to play regional and national events raises the overall level of competition.
  • Broader access: Players from underrepresented communities can travel, qualify, and showcase their talent.
  • Better development: Funds for coaching and practice mean athletes train at higher levels.

In short, the USNDP is raising the bar for American amateur golf, making it more competitive, inclusive, and equitable.

Long-Term Impact on the Game

When junior golfers have access to resources, the entire sport benefits:

  • College programs gain access to a deeper, broader talent pool.
  • Elite amateur events see stronger, more diverse fields.
  • The professional game welcomes new stars with different stories and backgrounds.

It’s a vision for American golf that is not just successful—but fair, inclusive, and world-leading.
