A dominant four-day performance at Wannamoisett crowned Preston Stout the Northeast Amateur champion
RUMFORD, R.I. – Four days of pressure, precision, and poise at historic Wannamoisett Country Club (pronounced WAHN-uh-moy-sit) culminated with Preston Stout etching his name into amateur golf history.
The Oklahoma State sophomore closed out a wire-to-wire victory at the 63rd Northeast Amateur Invitational, finishing at 9-under-par 267 after a steady final-round 65. It was a performance defined by maturity beyond his years—flashing power, control, and the ability to rebound under the weight of the lead.
After surging into the lead with a second-round 61, Preston Stout never looked back. The final round saw him hold his nerve, with birdies at 3, 6, 9, and a back-nine flurry at 13, 15, and 17. His bogey-free front nine set the tone for a closing 65, enough to secure the title by a commanding 8-stroke margin.
Miles Russell—just 15 years old—had entered Saturday in striking distance but couldn’t keep pace, carding a 73 to fall into solo second at -1 (275). John Daly II, playing alongside Stout, posted a final-round 73 to finish at even-par (276), rounding out the top three.
Further down the board, Adam Bresnu from Morocco matched the round of the day with a closing 65 to vault into a tie for 4th, joined by Jonathan Griz, who rebounded from a shaky third round to shoot 68.

| T6 | Josiah Gilbert | USA | 68 | 68 | 71 | 71 | 278 | +2 |
With a historic 61 on his card and a final round that sealed the deal, Preston Stout’s win is not just another amateur victory—it’s a statement. With an All-Big 12 season behind him, a Palmer Cup appearance, and now this Northeast Amateur title, Stout has quickly become one of the hottest names in amateur golf.
Expect to hear much more from the Richardson, Texas native. This week, he didn’t just win a tournament—he arrived.
Founded in 1962, the Northeast Amateur is more than a tournament—it’s an institution. As one of just seven Elite Amateur Series events, its results can propel players to exemptions in USGA and PGA TOUR events. The champion will also earn coveted points in the PGA TOUR University Accelerated Program and an exemption to the U.S. Amateur.
The 2025 field is highlighted by returning champion Anthony Delisanti (Valparaiso) and runner-up Bryan Lee (Virginia). Other top returners include Cameron Tankersley (Ole Miss, T-3 in 2024) and Paul Chang (Virginia, T-9 in 2024). Ben James—ranked No. 3 in the WAGR and a 1st Team All-American—is also in the mix.
A revered Donald Ross design in Rumford, Rhode Island, Wannamoisett demands strategy, control, and mental endurance. Its defining features:
The winning score has settled around 260–265 in recent years. Players must navigate a tough cut line (usually near even par) and go low over four rounds to contend.
This year’s field includes a dynamic mix of junior standouts, college stars, and battle-tested Mid-Ams:
In total, players hail from more than 30 states and 5 countries, representing schools like Alabama, Stanford, Pepperdine, Florida, and Vanderbilt.
The Northeast is more than a standalone tournament—it’s a window into amateur golf’s future. With Walker Cup Captain Nathan Smith in attendance, players will be under a national spotlight as Team USA selections take shape.
Can Delisanti become the first repeat winner in over a decade? Will a Mid-Am upset the youth? Or will a top-ranked junior announce himself on the world stage? The only certainty is that greatness awaits at Wannamoisett.
