It all starts with a question: Have you ever wondered how the most trusted ball in golf is actually made? Not just designed, but molded, tested, and perfected — every single day? At Ball Plant 3 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Titleist has opened its doors to show golfers what that process looks like. And if you’re a Team Titleist member, you get to walk through them.
Ball Plant 3 isn’t just a factory — it’s the heartbeat of Titleist golf ball innovation. Over 300,000 balls are produced here daily, each one crafted with meticulous precision. From the moment raw materials enter the building to the moment a dozen Pro V1s are boxed up, every step is carefully engineered, measured, and repeated with relentless consistency.
The 90-minute tour, exclusive to Team Titleist members, reveals the layers of technology and care behind each ball: cores being molded, urethane covers being cast, robots inspecting surfaces with sub-millimeter accuracy. It’s not just eye-opening — it’s humbling.
The story of Titleist began in the 1930s when a missed putt led Phil Young, a Massachusetts dentist, to x-ray a golf ball and discover an off-center core. His solution? Build a better ball. What followed was a company that not only manufactured its own balls, but invented machines to test them. From Young’s x-ray discovery to today’s proprietary R&D robots and launch monitors, the throughline has always been one thing: trust in the process.
This same philosophy led to the launch of the Pro V1 in 2000 — a ball that changed the industry. Players no longer had to choose between distance and feel. With its multilayer construction and cast urethane cover, the Pro V1 offered both. Forty-seven pros put it into play in its first week. Billy Andrade won. Tiger Woods tested it. The rest is history.
Today, being part of Team Titleist means more than receiving emails. It means early access to product testing, direct interaction with the engineers who design the world’s most played golf ball, and yes — an invitation to experience Ball Plant 3 firsthand.

Golfers leave the Ball Plant 3 tour with more than cool facts. They leave with a new appreciation for the ball in their bag. For the team of engineers who build 100 prototypes a year only to discard 95. For the player feedback that changes a dimple pattern. For the people behind every performance gain.
Titleist has been refining the Pro V1 for 25 years — never settling, always improving. And while the ball may evolve, the goal remains the same: to build the most consistent, best-performing ball in the game. The Ball Plant 3 tour is your chance to see that mission in action.
