Charlie Woods wins first AJGA title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational

Woods, 16, shines at Streamsong, earning first AJGA win against elite junior field
At just 16 years old, Charlie Woods has grown accustomed to the attention. The son of golf icon Tiger Woods, his rounds are trailed by galleries more common on the PGA Tour than at junior events, and every swing is analyzed for signs of greatness.
But this week at Streamsong Resort, Woods gave the golf world something far more compelling than hype; he gave them proof.
Woods captured the 2025 AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational in dominant fashion, carding rounds of 70-65-66 to win his first American Junior Golf Association title by three shots. Ranked No. 606 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings coming into the week, Woods outlasted a field loaded with top junior players in the country to claim the biggest win of his young career.

Wild Start, Steady Finish
Woods opened the tournament with a headline-grabbing, chaotic round of 2-under 70 that quickly went viral. The scorecard included eight birdies, one eagle, five bogeys, a triple bogey, and just three pars, all on par-3s. It hinted at the explosiveness he may have inherited from his father, as well as the rawness of a still-developing junior golfer. Yet, it left him just three shots off the lead in a prestigious field.
In round two, Woods shifted gears. He found a balance, delivering a blistering 65 that included nine birdies and just two dropped shots. He surged into a tie for second and positioned himself firmly in contention heading into the final round.
On Wednesday, he looked anything but overwhelmed. He made eight birdies and two bogeys in the final round, including birdies on 7 of 11 holes in the middle of his round. Woods reached 15-under-par and took a narrow lead, one he wouldn’t relinquish coming down the stretch.
Woods’ final score of 201 (-15) is one stroke shy of the tournament record, set in 2023 by Cayden Pope and Miles Russell. He made 25 birdies and an eagle in 54 holes.
Beating the Best
What made the victory even more remarkable was the competition. The field at the Team TaylorMade Invitational is one of the strongest of the AJGA season, featuring five of the top 10 players in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, including three inside the top seven.
Among those trailing Woods:
Miles Russell – AJGA No. 1 junior, the youngest player ever to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour, and the reigning AJGA Player of the Year.
Luke Colton – Ranked No. 5, Vanderbilt commit, and U.S. National Junior Team member.
Tyler Watts – Ranked No. 7, Tennessee commit and runner-up at the 2024 U.S. Junior.
Phillip Dunham – Alabama commit and U.S. National Junior Team member.
Jessy Huebner – Just 15 years old, already a U.S. Open local qualifier medalist and the youngest member of the 2025 U.S. National Junior Team.
Woods beat them all.
It was a performance that echoed the young tournament’s legacy. Recent champions include Carson Bertagnole (UNC commit), Cayden Pope (starter on Auburn’s national championship-contending team), and Benjamin James (now leading Virginia in the NCAA Championship). At Streamsong, good players always win. This week, Woods showed he’s ready to be considered among them.
The Bigger Picture
For Charlie, this week was validation. Just last summer, he shot 82-80 and missed the cut at the U.S. Junior Championship, his first USGA event, in front of huge crowds and heavy expectations. He’s played every round of competitive golf under the weight of a last name that guarantees interest, but not success. And while the pressure, crowds, and comparisons to his father won’t go away, this week he proved that his game deserves just as much attention as his name. It was about the golf. And that made all the difference.
College coaches can begin recruiting Woods this summer. Expect the phones to be ringing.
