The 66-year-old Weixel, representing The Golf Club, claimed the title at Worthington Hills Country Club with rounds of 71-72—143, then sealed the championship in style with a birdie on the first playoff hole to edge out fellow contender Vin Cahill. The win continues a remarkable run for the veteran competitor, who has now captured major senior titles in both Ohio and California.

A Legacy of Consistent Excellence

Weixel’s latest triumph adds to a growing collection of senior and super senior victories. In 2021, he captured the Columbus Senior Amateur, 28 years after winning the regular division of the same event. That victory made him just the fourth player in history to win both titles, cementing his place in Ohio’s amateur golf lore.

Earlier, in 2018, Weixel shared the title at the prestigious California Seniors Golf Association Championship after rallying from seven shots back with a final-round 71 at Rancho Santa Fe Country Club — all after arriving straight from an international flight. That performance epitomized Weixel’s trademark determination and composure.

Columbus Roots, Coast-to-Coast Impact

A native of Eastern Ohio and a graduate of Worthington High School and Capital University, Weixel’s roots in the Columbus golf scene run deep. He was a collegiate All-American and conference champion at Capital, and even back then, he was known for his methodical preparation and consistent ball-striking.

After a successful career in business — culminating as managing partner at Deloitte in San Diego — Weixel has embraced retirement with the same focus he brings to the first tee. He remains active in the amateur game, especially in Ohio, where he maintains ties to New Albany Country Club and recently joined The Golf Club.
