Dixie Amateur: Gavin Dear Wins by Two

Scotland native shot 62 in the 2nd round, adds to 2008 success at World Amateur Team Championship
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (Dec. 24, 2008) -- Gavin Dear today became the first Scottish winner of the Dixie Amateur championship at Heron Bay Golf Club.
Dear, who was part of the Scottish Team that won the 2008 World Mens Amateur Golf Team Championship (Eisenhower Trophy) event with Callum Macaulay and Wallace Booth in Australia, won by the close margin of two strokes after starting the last round five strokes ahead.
Dear posted a final round score of two-over-par 74 to add to previous rounds of 70, 62 & 67 for a 15-under-par total of 273.
Vaughn Snyder from Ohio State University finished runner-up with a 71 for 275.
Romain Wattell of Bussy-Guermantes, France finished in T3 place with Brinson Paolini of Princess Anne Country Club.
The 24-year-old joins an illustrious list of previous winners of the Dixie men’s amateur championship which includes Hal Sutton, Hunter Haas, Frank Stranahan, Lanny Wadkins, Andy Bean, Hal Sutton, Erik Compton, Colt Knost, Brandt Snedeker, Jesper Parnevik, Len Mattiace, Bruce Fleisher and Ryuji Imada.
