Spanish women's team overcame a five-shot deficit to win the team title at home
The Spanish women’s team pulled off an incredible comeback to win the RCG Sotogrande Cup on the challenging Cadiz course, overcoming a five-stroke deficit in style. Entering the final round behind a solid Swedish team sitting at 1-over-par, Spain needed something special — and they got just that from Nagore Martínez.
Martínez delivered a breathtaking round of 66 (-6), making seven birdies and keeping her mistakes to a minimum. Her performance gave Spain a real shot at the title, even as Amanda Revuelta battled through a tough day, posting an 80 (+8).
Despite the contrasting rounds, the Spanish duo’s combined effort was enough to pull even with Sweden at 8-over-par after 72 holes. Thanks to their better total of their top-two scores, Spain emerged victorious, leaving the Swedish team — led by Ebba Lundqvist and Matilda Bjorkman — to settle for second place.
Meanwhile, Benedicte Brent-Buchholz of Denmark was a class apart in the individual competition. The Wake Forest University commit for Fall of 2026 showed her potential with two stellar opening rounds of 69 and 67, giving her a comfortable lead.
Though her game cooled with rounds of 77 and 75 over the weekend, her early work was more than enough to secure the individual title by two strokes. Rosane Boere of the Netherlands put up a strong fight, but her steady rounds of 74-73-71-74 weren’t enough to catch Brent-Buchholz.
